PAUL BRYON OBERST, 61, of Freedom, Maine, formerly of Frankfort, KY passed away on December 2, 2016 at his home in Freedom, Maine.

He was born January 11, 1955 in Owensboro, KY. His family moved to Frankfort in 1956. He attended Good Shepherd and Frankfort High School. He was a graduate of Centre College (’77) where he majored in studio art. This was the beginning of a life-long passion and career in the arts. He also worked 27 years serving special needs individuals as a compassionate and beloved caregiver.

After graduating from Centre he moved to Cleveland, OH and worked at the Cleveland Center for Contemporary Art where his own artwork was eventually discovered and exhibited. This sparked an eventual affiliation with Stux Gallery in Boston, MA and New York, NY. He became a prolific and respected artist, which led to being an Arts Fellow at the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, MA. His artwork resides in museums, major private and public collections nationally and internationally. He is represented by Bridgette Mayer Gallery in Philadelphia, PA. Until his passing he continued to create beautiful works of art in various forms and mediums. His deep connection with nature and his love of the human spirit was woven throughout his artwork as well as his personal relationships. He was a compassionate counselor, mentor and friend to countless people during his time with us.
